Blur drummer loses council election

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has lost his election for a seat on Westminster City Council.

The indie musician lost to Conservative representative Mehfuz Ahmed in the Church Street seat at this week's by-election.

Ahmed beat Rowntree by 303 votes in the ward, which is based north of Regent's Park, with a 24% turnout.

It is the first time the seat has been won by the Conservatives.

Rowntree lost his previous attempt to enter political office last year, coming third in a London council by-election.
